Essiac tea is a combination of herbs (burdock root, sheep sorrel, rhubarb root, and slippery elm bark) that has been traditional used as an alternative cancer treatment. This herbal compound was first made famous in 1922 by a nurse named Rene Caissie, who claimed it could treat cancer in her patients.  It is said that originated from Ojibwe medicine.  While there are no scientific evidence to support these claims, studies have shown that Essiac tea is conceivably high in antioxidants and DNA-protective activity, which may protect cells from damage and aid in anti-cancer effects.*
