In Traditional Chinese medicine, eleuthero is called "Ci Wu Pi" and is considered to have a Warm energy and is used in Qi Tonics. Eleuthero, also known as siberian ginseng in Western herbalism, may be taken to alleviate symptoms of stress, and is also recognized for its antirheumatic and antispasmodic properties. In modern herbalism practices, it is commonly recommended to athletes to increase endurance and stamina. It is widely considered an adaptogen, helping the body cope with various stressors. In TMC, it is taken to reduce Coldness and dispel Dampness.*
