In Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha is considered a fundamental tonic formula. It has been widely used for impotence, infertility, muscle weakness, and joint and nerve pain. It is most commonly known for being good for all Vata, or nerve weakness, conditions. It has a warming action and a bitter-sweet taste. Traditionally, in Chinese herbalism, ashwagandha is considered a Yang tonic.*
