Catnip is a cooling diaphoretic, meaning that it may induce sweating without raising the body's temperature. It has a cooling action and a bitter taste. Catnip is an herb that is known to have acrid, astringent, diaphoretic, carminative, and sedative properties. Historically, it has been used to calm babies and children, as well as ease the digestive system, as it can reduce swelling and induce relaxation and restful sleep. Traditionally, it is drank as a tea and sweetened with honey.*
